“We wish to examine the relationship between science and society, based on the belief that the two are now so closely connect ed that the world we live in today can rightfully be called the “society of science”. To get to the root of the issue, therefore, we cannot just limit ourselves to a general examination of the relationships between science and society; we must also try to decipher the new signals—however faint and at times seemingly indecipherable—that arise from the real world, a world largely shaped by science.”
